Standards and Compliance

How we approach licensing, safety and accountability

Security guarding is a regulated activity, and clients deserve a clear, honest account of how a provider actually operates. This page sets out ours.

Individual SIA licensing and the Approved Contractor Scheme

Any individual carrying out licensable security activity in England and Wales must hold a valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence for that role. This is a legal requirement placed on the individual, verified through the SIA's own licence-checking service.

The SIA Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) is a separate, company-level accreditation that recognises a security provider's management systems, not an individual licence. Bordon Security Ltd has not applied for or achieved ACS status. We will only describe ourselves as an SIA Approved Contractor if and when that status is formally granted, and this page will be updated accordingly.

In practice, this means: officers deployed to licensable roles are individually SIA-licensed for that role, while Bordon Security as a company does not currently hold, and does not claim to hold, SIA ACS accreditation.

Vetting and right-to-work checks

Before deployment, officers complete right-to-work checks in line with UK requirements, along with reference and background checks appropriate to the role and site. Where a client's site has specific vetting requirements, such as BS 7858 screening for a particular contract, this is agreed and completed as part of mobilisation.

Assignment instructions

Every site is covered by written assignment instructions, developed from a review of the premises and the client's requirements. These set out access procedures, patrol patterns, reporting lines, key contacts and emergency procedures specific to that location, and are reviewed as the site or its risks change.

Risk assessments

We carry out a risk assessment as part of planning each assignment, covering the specific hazards and security risks relevant to that site. Risk assessments inform how a service is delivered and are reviewed periodically or when circumstances change.

Incident reporting

Officers maintain a written occurrence log for their shift and report incidents through an agreed escalation route, which varies by client and site. Serious incidents are escalated to management and, where appropriate, to the client and emergency services without delay.

Health and safety responsibilities

Officers work within the health and safety framework of the site they're deployed to, following site-specific inductions and procedures, particularly on active construction sites. We take our own duties under UK health and safety law seriously, both for our officers and for the people they interact with while on duty.

Data protection and confidentiality

Personal data collected in the course of an assignment, such as visitor logs or incident reports, is handled in line with UK data protection law and our Privacy Policy. Officers are expected to treat information they encounter while on duty as confidential and to handle it appropriately.

Training and supervision

Officers complete the mandatory SIA training required for their licence before deployment, along with site-specific induction and briefing for each assignment. Assignments are supervised by our management team, who remain a point of contact for clients throughout the contract.

Partner-supported services

Some services, such as CCTV installation, monitoring, access control, alarms and drone surveillance, need specialist qualifications and equipment. Where we coordinate these with a service partner, we expect the partner to hold the licences, qualifications, permissions and insurance that the work requires, and we explain the proposed arrangement before any commitment is made.

Bordon Security remains your point of contact for the service agreed with you. Guarding duties are delivered by appropriately SIA-licensed personnel where the role requires it; we do not say that every technology service is delivered by SIA-licensed personnel.

Our continuous-improvement approach

As a new company, we intend to build out our management systems and processes over time, learning from every assignment we deliver. Recognised management standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001, are planned objectives as the company grows. We have not yet achieved any of them, and we will not describe ourselves as certified until the certificate has formally been issued.

Certifications and approvals

This table shows exactly where we stand. We will update it, and add the certificate details, only when a certification has formally been issued.
